Introduction
Terelj National Park is located 70km from the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. It is a pristine area devoid of pollution and noise of big cities. Its calm atmosphere and opportunities for all kinds of activities attract both foreign and domestic travelers. The Northern part of the National Park is home to many forms of wildlife which includes animals such as deer, foxes, wolves and boars. Many types of avian creatures can be found here also.
For the thrill-seeking adventurers, there are services for ATV and bike riding, horse riding, mountain climbing, kayaking and trekking.
Travel Itinerary:
In the morning, meet with local guide and driver to begin the tour. First stop is the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue complex, located 60km from the city. It is home to the world’s tallest equestrian statue which is dedicated to one of the most prominent figure of, not only Mongolian history, but that of World history itself – Chinggis Khaan (also known as Genghiz Khaan). The statue faces towards the East where Chinggis Khaan was born and it also symbolizes a mother welcoming her son as a statue complex dedicated to his mother, Oelun, is being built nearby.
After touring the complex grounds, and visiting the top of the statue, depart for Terelj National Park and enjoy lunch at a local ger camp. Afterwards, stop by the symbol of Terelj, the Turtle Rock which is a unique natural rock formation which resembles a turtle. After a brief stop at the Turtle Rock, continue on to Ariyapala mediation center which was built after freedom of religion was reinstituted in the 1990s. Enjoy a peaceful trek at the meditation center.
Visit a local nomadic family and learn about the way traditional lifestyle is coexisting with the modern times and go for a short horse riding experience the National Park area.
Return to Ulaanbaatar in the later afternoon.
